Counterfeit saffron

This saffron is harmful to the health of consumers and produced in Mashhad by some sellers in Kerman market. The low price of this counterfeit saffron has become a welcome addition to consumers.

Coloring, grinding, mixing with corn starch and adding oil are the most common methods of producing counterfeit saffron. One way to chew on saffron is to stigmatize it with some fat, sugar, salt or honey and increase its weight.

The most dangerous way to chew saffron is to use artificial colors. If synthetic dyes are used in saffron, it is detectable in the laboratory, as its low pigmentation power indicates this fraud.

These synthetic dyes are very dangerous to human health. The safflowers imported from Mecca as saffron and often in powder form are made from these dangerous synthetic colors.
